21 August 2015 – Katie Dugan, anchor of WYTV’s Daybreak program, spoke with Ohio MENTOR staff and foster parents during a series of interviews for Foster Care Awareness Month. Recognized nationwide, Foster Care Awareness Month gives a voice to youth in foster care and brings awareness to the amazing difference a loving foster home can have on a child in need. Daybreak’s series focused on the need for caring foster parents and on the challenging yet rewarding experiences being a foster parent brings.
5 September 2008 – In July, the US Senate officially designated the week of September 7, 2008 as National Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week. Introduced by Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska and passed by unanimous consent, the resolution (S. Res. 613) acknowledges the important work DSPs do each and every day to provide quality of life-enhancing services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
1 May 2008 – Today there are more than half a million children in foster care and many are waiting for a permanent place to call home. According to the National Foster Care Coalition, there are an estimated 12 million foster care alumni and 513,000 children and adolescents currently in out-of-home care. Each May, National Foster Care Month provides an opportunity for people across the nation to focus attention on the year-round needs of children and adolescents in foster care.
